As of July 1st 2019, John Trust Mayeku started work as the new Operations Manager for Uganda Cricket Association (UCA). Mayeku joins UCA at a time the institution is going through structural changes to meet the demands of the modern environment.
“I am truly grateful for the appointment. It gives me great joy to return to UCA in a different capacity. I am looking forward to positively contribute to the further development of our game as we look to scale the heights. It is going to be challenging but I am ready for everything. I am now older, wiser and will certainly be better in terms of execution,” said Mayeku, who has also served in other coaching roles before.
The role fell vacant after Alvin Mboijana Bagaya voluntarily tendered in his resignation on March 31 and since then Grace Mutyagaba, the UCA Development Officer for Northern Uganda, has filled in the void on a temporary basis.
However with the increasing demand for efficiency demanded by the stakeholders, UCA sought applications for the role from the fraternity.
Well-thought process
After a long two-month scrutiny, Mayeku was approved as the perfect candidate for the role. He will be re-joining the Association having previously worked with the UCA Secretariat as a Development Officer. Cricket Cranes opening batsman Hamu Bagenda Kayondo was among the other candidates that were interviewed for the tasking job.
He will be tasked with ensuring that UCA becomes more efficient on a lean budget. This is also welcome news for Martin Ondeko, the Chief Executive Officer, who has been without a right hand man for a while and has had to literally juggle two roles as his team had development issues to handle, too!
We wish Mayeku a fruitful stay at Uganda Cricket. Once again, welcome on board, Sir!
