The newly promoted Aziz Damani ladies team will start off their campaign in the Mehta Premier league against Pioneer CC. The ladies of Damani were ever so impressive last season in division two finishing with a 100% record and gaining promotion long before the league came to a close.
Aziz Damani last season was largely a Masaka S.S girls’ team under the guidance of coach Yusuf Nanga. They were buoyed by the performances of Immaculate Nakisuyi who finished top of the log for runs with a couple of centuries and countless half centuries. Nakisuyi’s performances earned her the woman of series accolade and she can hope to carry that form into the Mehta Premier League but they will need to plan for life without her since she moved to rivals Jinja SSS.
Pioneer CC on the other hand will be glad that the one department that failed them last season has been ably filled. Cricket cranes skipper Kevin Awino joins them from Jinja S.S to add to their batting depth but most importantly, to get behind the stumps and keep the wickets. Bowlers like Carol Namugenyi will now confidently bowl to her strengths with the knowledge that they have a literal wall behind the stumps. Kevin joins Pioneer in good form and brings with her a wealth of international experience as well as leadership skills that the team can rely on in moments of doubt.
Under the guidance of Emmanuel Isanez, Pioneer CC will look to better their fortunes this time around as compared to last season where they had to fight against relegation with Tornado Bee and the latter eventually losing. After barely surviving relegation, Pioneer CC will look to start their campaign on a high note to avoid the humiliation they almost suffered last season.
Aziz Damani will be here to stay and they know that collecting a win against Pioneer CC will send out a clear message to all other opposition of their intentions to conquer the division as well.
