Solitary Effort: Immaculate Nakisuuyi's knock of 35 off 43 balls was not enough to rescue the Victoria Pearls in their chase of 115 as they went down by 21 runs. PHOTO/COURTESY-CRICKET NAMIBIA
April 12, 2025. The Capricorn Eagles of Namibia staged a strong comeback to level the six-match Capricorn Eagles Series at 2-2 with a 21-run win over Uganda’s Victoria Pearls at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek earlier this evening.
Namibia’s captain Sunè Wittmann starred with a blistering knock of 54 off 43 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes, as the hosts posted 114 for 8 in their 20 overs. Uganda’s fielding woes returned to haunt them as at least six chances were spilled, including Wittmann’s reprieve on the second ball of the innings.
In reply, Uganda’s chase faltered despite a stabilising 38-run partnership between Immaculate Nakisuuyi (35 off 43) and vice-captain Rita Musamali (20 off 30) for the third wicket. The Pearls eventually fell short at 93/6, undone by tight bowling spells from Victoria Hamunyela (1/12), Eveleen Kejarukua (1/14), and Wilka Mwatile (1/17).
Medium pacer Sarah Walaza and spinner Consylate Aweko picked timely wickets, but Namibia’s batters capitalised on poor fielding to make the most of their innings.
Captain Janet Mbabazi admitted, “We haven’t played our best cricket yet. There’s a lot to improve – especially in the field as you have seen today. We are going to reflect and pump up ourselves.”
The result sees the five-match T20 series level at 2-2. The teams take Sunday off before returning for Game 5 on Monday, April 14, at the High Performance Oval. Both teams will be looking to edge ahead in this tightly contested series.
