The Victoria Pearls have made an emphatic statement at the Capricorn Eagles Series in Namibia, securing a 2-0 lead after two gripping matches played at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek.
After winning Game One by 2 runs, they delivered another thrilling performance to clinch a 5-run win over Namibia in Game Two of the ongoing Capricorn Eagles Series at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek, maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.
After being asked to bat first, Uganda posted 95/5 in 20 overs, overcoming early pressure following the dismissal of captain Janet Mbabazi for 4. A cautious rebuild from Player of the Match Immaculate Nakisuuyi (19), Esther Iloku (23) and Rita Musamali (25) helped steady the innings, despite facing disciplined bowling led by Wilka Mwatile (1/10 in 4 overs).
Namibia looked threatening in their chase with Kayleen Green (29) and Wilka (27) pushing them to 60/4 in 13 overs. But Uganda’s bowlers showed composure at the death. With 12 needed off the final over, captain Mbabazi bowled the last six balls herself—conceding only 6 runs and engineering a critical run-out to seal victory.
Deus Muhumuza (Head Coach):
“Most importantly for us, we have many areas of concern. The bowling was better than matchday one, but the batting—we faced 63 dot balls—which is a very big concern. Also, the fielding—we took only one chance out of eight. There’s big room for improvement. We are a team capable of scoring 140 and above, and we must look to do that, not just say it. We hope to do better.”
