The Kasese region qualifiers had schools from Kasese and Fortportal compete for the available 2 slots for the main event in Kampala. Kasese SSS was a no show leaving Nyakasura School (Fortportal), Kyebambe Girls (fortportal), Mt Rwenzori SSS (Kasese) and Kilembe SSS (Kasese) to compete for the 2 slots.
Mt Rwenzori SSS blew away its competition winning all its games while Kilembe SSS edged Nyakasura School by 3 runs for the final qualification spot. Both representatives from the Rwenzori Region are based in Kasese showing the progress the region has made in spreading the game and also development of players. This growth is largely to the efforts of the CWB program that has identified the region as a great catchment area for new talent and have been heavily involved in spreading the game there.
The Kasese Region has dominated mini cricket for the last year four years and the rate at which they produce young players especially girls is overhelming. Credit has to been given to UCA for being able to absorb the young cricketers from mini cricket into hard ball cricket.
Kilembe SSS has been the powerhouse for girls cricket in the region and it has produced some great girls who have gone on to represent the junior national sides like Regius Tumusiime and Julia Karungi.
Unlike Kilembe SSS, Mt Rwenzori SSS will be only be making their second appearance at the pinnacle of the girls schools cricket and they will want to show some improvement from their maiden appearance last year which was not memorable.
Both schools have no superstars but since most of the players are making the step up from mini cricket to hard ball but they have no fear in the way they play. Their fearless style of play is money"s worth for those that love the beautiful game and they might ambush any one who takes them lightly.
