The 2025 UCA 50-Over Men’s National League bowled off with an exciting clash at the Jinja SS Oval, where Soroti City CC secured a hard-fought 5-wicket victory over Jinja SS in a low-scoring thriller.
Winning the toss, Soroti City opted to bowl first, aiming to restrict Jinja SS to a manageable total. Their bowlers executed the plan to perfection, dismantling Jinja SS for just 69 runs in 31.1 overs. The schoolboys struggled from the onset, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build any meaningful partnerships. Their top scorer, Ayub Rashid, managed only 13 off 55 balls, while the rest of the batting lineup faltered. Extras contributed significantly – 35 - to their total.
The Soroti City bowling attack was ruthless, led by Jacob Malinga (3/17), Juma Sururu (3/6), and Steven Okirori (2/11). Their combined efforts kept Jinja SS under pressure throughout the innings.
In reply, Soroti City faced an early setback, losing a wicket in the first over. But captain Ronald Ebulu held his nerve, scoring a crucial 22 to steer his side to victory in the 11th over. Jinja SS’s Kenneth Isiko notched two wickets, but his efforts were not enough to deny Soroti City victory.
At the Entebbe, Mukono Development was awarded a walkover after their scheduled opponents, Tornado Cricket Club, failed to show up. The reason for Tornado’s absence remains unconfirmed.
The league resumes next Saturday, April 5th with Nile taking on Budo at Entebbe, while Mukono Development faces St. John’s SS at Florida Oval. Uganda Cricket Association remains committed to delivering an exciting and competitive league season.
