An Arthur Kyobe inspired Challengers CC got back to winning ways in a 4 wicket thumping of KICC at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval.

Challengers won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that paid great dividends for them. David Wabwire (31/2 in 8 overs) and Asadu Seguya (26/2 in 6 overs) opened the bowling for Challengers and were resolute in their resolve to limit the KICC batsmen from scoring. The pair combined well with Ahmed Naseer (30/2 in 7 overs) to see KICC stranded at 52/5 just before the first drinks break.

Despite the collapse, KICC were able to rally behind Irfan Afridi (57 off 62) who painstakingly got them to 158/7 before his wicket fell, paving way for Sharif Suleman (43 off 52) who equally stuck in and saw them to 180/9 before he fell as well. KICC captain Hanumat Katkar, batting at number eleven had nothing to offer to increase his team’s score as they eventually collapsed at 180 all out in just under 40 overs.

Challengers did not start the run chase well with Suleman Sharif (32/2 in 5 overs) picking the wickets of Hamu Kayondo and Mohammed Aneef in the very first over of the second innings. Arthur Kyobe however did not seem phased by this as he went on to partner with Steven Wabwose for a 53 run third wicket stand. Kyobe was not done as he further contributed 3 meaty sixes to push his tally to 84 in just 41 balls but later fell leaving Challengers at 113/5.

With the ground work laid by Kyobe, Ahmed Naseer (53 not out) eventually guided the Challengers to their 4 wicket win over KICC who have now suffered two straight losses. KICC currently sit 5th on the table with 22 points after 9 games while Challengers climbed to 3rd with 29, 19 points behind run away table leaders Aziz Damani in 1st place.
