Budo are now aware that the road ahead is going to be a long one after they lost by 153 runs to Tornado in Jinja. Budo Captain Abu Mayanja in his pre match analysis mentioned that their target this season is to just survive.

The Kampala based teams had to make the journey to Jinja and an early morning downpour reduced the encounter to a 39 overs. Budo won the toss and elected to field 1st and they would rue this decision as dropped catches and missed run outs gave Tornado a chance to post a competitive 240.

New signing Cosmas Kyewuta (56) who joined from Charity scored a brisky half ton combining  with team Captain Brian Adriko (43) to help Tornado post a competitive 249/7 in 38 overs.

The opening bowling pair of Cosmas Kyewuta (5/44) and Trevor Bukenya (3/30) wrapped up Budo in 18 overs and only a rare guard resistance delayed the inevitable with Budo folding for only 96.

Abu Mayanja was honest in his assessment of the game and knows that the road ahead is not going to be an easy one

Our lack of practice clearly showed as we were sloppy in the field i.e. missed many run outs, dropped a few catches and conceded many needless runs thus conceding a high total of 240
When it came to our chance to bat, again our lack of practise clearly showed as we were reduced to 20/6 before some grit was showed by the late order to give the score line some respect. All in all, it was a tough welcome to a higher division and we need to put in some hard yards in training if we are to stay level with the rest of the field.

The win should inspire Brian Adriko and his charges to build on if they are to have a strong 2018 season. In the 2017 season despite a winning start they completely went off the rails losing 6 games on the bounce and were in danger of being relegated to Div 3. Cosmas Kyewuta capped a memorable debut scoring a half century and picking up a fiver for his new club.
