Soroti Blazers 245/8 in 40 overs (Hillary Kutesa 85 (71), Ivan Kakande 36 (31), Dalton Sanya 4/33 in 6 overs) beat JACC 105 all out in 25.4 (JACC: Ahmed Idd 16 (25), Ivan Kakande 4/23 in 5.4 overs) by 140 runs.

Man Of Match: Ivan Kakande 36 (31) & 4/23 in 5.4 overs

Debutants Soroti Blazers were a joy to behold on Day One of the Jazz Safari National Cricket League on March 24.

They lit up Kyambogo in the true sense of the word with their bright ‘Orange & Black’ made famous by the Netherlands football team.

Indeed Soroti Blazers had some ‘Dutch Courage’ in their veins on the day and it was best illustrated by their captain Ivan Kakande whose lusty knock of 36 runs off 31 balls and spell of 4 for 23 in 5.4 overs inspired his side to a convincing 140-run win over Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs (JACC).

“It was a great debut,” said Soroti Cricket Academy’s Felix Musana, who is also a team member and contribution on the day was one catch after he remained unbeaten on 1 off 3 balls in the first innings.

“Our first game in the club’s history and a convincing win. I couldn’t have asked for more. This feels good.”

But the hero with the bat was Hillary Kutesa with a 71-ball half century of 85 runs that was littered with nine boundaries who steered the side to 245 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 40 overs.

JACC’s Dalton Sanya (4/33) and Timothy Kawanguzi (2/34) did a commendable job with the bowl but their batters didn’t come to the party as only Ahmed Idd (16 off 25) showed any form of resistance.

Richard Odong backed up skipper Kakande’s bowling show with two wickets in his five-over spell that cost only 18 runs to bundle out JACC a miserly 105 in 25.4 overs.
