PRESS RELEASE - Matchday 6 Review - 2025 National Men’s 50 Over League

May 12, 2025. Match Day Six of the 2025 UCA Men’s 50 Overs League continued to provide gripping narratives across both divisions. With the season starting to take shape, title contenders stepped up, new heroes emerged, and inclement weather played its part yet again.

DIVISION I - PREMIERSHIP

Saturday, May 11

Aboojo vs Avengers – Entebbe Cricket Oval

Avengers won by 4 wickets
Aboojo’s playoff push suffered a blow with another defeat, this time at the hands of Avengers CC. Batting first, Aboojo crumbled to 120 all out in 25.2 overs, despite a spirited 32 off 19 balls from Fortunate Alijuna. Avengers’ Pius Oloka led the bowling with 3 wickets to dismantle the top order.

The chase was far from smooth sailing as Aboojo’s bowlers struck early to leave Avengers reeling at 37/4. But calm innings from Christopher Kidega (16), Pius Oloka (21*), and Solomon Otim (23*) steadied the ship as Avengers reached the target in 34.5 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Aboojo now find themselves languishing in fifth place with dwindling playoff hopes.

Player of the Match: Pius Oloka (3 wickets & 21 in a match-winning all-round show)*

Rounders vs Kutchi Tigers – Serenity Oval, Kamengo

Kutchi Tigers won by 7 wickets
Kutchi Tigers showed their championship pedigree with a dominant win over Rounders. Missing talisman Brian Masaba, Rounders stumbled to 163 all out in 41.3 overs. Steven Wabwose (44) and Irishad Suleman (35) were the only notable contributors, as Rabadiya Nautam (3/25) and Ghanshyam Ashani (2/36) led a disciplined Tigers bowling unit.

Kutchi Tigers wasted no time in the chase. Nitin Jeshani smashed a 60-ball 78, combining aggression with precision, and got excellent support from Hasin Ashani (36) to seal the win inside 24 overs. The results sent Kutchi Tigers top of the Premiership table with 7 points from 4 matches.

DIVISION II - CHAMPIONSHIP

Saturday, May 11

GM Sugar vs SKLPS – GM Sugar Oval

GM Sugar won by 170 runs
Group B leaders GM Sugar were in ruthless form, dismantling SKLPS by a massive 170 runs. Star batsman Pramit Harishbhai Patel struck a brilliant unbeaten 91 as GM piled up 240. He received valuable support from Bhaveshbhai Patel (39) and Bhavikkumar (46).

SKLPS faltered under scoreboard pressure and were dismissed for just 70, unable to deal with the spin and swing of the Patel bowling trio—Nimeshkumar, Karan, and Hevin—each claiming three wickets. GM Sugar tightened their grip on Group B with this emphatic win.

Player of the Match: Pramit Harishbhai Patel (91* and the backbone of GM’s innings)*

St. John’s SS vs Ismaili Community – Florida Oval

Match abandoned – No result (Rain)
Ismaili Community posted a formidable 235/6 in 39 overs, fueled by a fiery unbeaten 79 from Junaid Khan and a steady 34 from Amar Lakhani. But before St. John’s could face the required minimum overs for a result, torrential rain forced an abandonment. Both teams shared points.

Jinja SS vs Kutchi Tigers B – Jinja SS Oval

Kutchi Tigers B won by walkover
For the second week running, Jinja SS failed to honour their fixture, handing a walkover victory and full points to Kutchi Tigers B, who now remain unbeaten in Group A.
