2025 UCA NATIONAL MEN’S 50 OVER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 5 PREVIEW
Weekend of May 3rd–4th, 2025
THE PRELUDE!
The 2025 UCA National Men’s 50 Over League heads into Matchday 5 with match-ups in the respective divisions starting to take shape. While Saturday offers a rare breather, Sunday is stacked with five crucial encounters - three in Division One and two in Division Two - that promise thrills.
SUNDAY – MAY 4th, 2025 - DIVISION TWO FIXTURES
Jinja SS vs Patidar – Florida Oval, 10am
In Group A action, Jinja SS return to the field hoping to recover from their recent loss to Nile. They’ll face Patidar, who will be making their much-anticipated season debut. The students from Jinja will count on opening pairings and disciplined bowling to derail the fresh legs of Patidar in what is expected to be a lively clash at the Florida Oval.
Kutchi Tigers B vs Budo – GM Sugar Oval, 10am
Also in Group A, new entrants Kutchi Tigers B make their league debut at the scenic GM Sugar Oval in Njeru. Budo, who have one win from two games—including a gutsy performance against Nile - will be eager to rebound from last weekend’s defeat to Soroti City and keep themselves in the early qualification conversation.
SUNDAY – MAY 4th, 2025 - DIVISION ONE FIXTURES
Kutchi Tigers vs Wanderers – Entebbe Cricket Oval, 10am
It’s the blockbuster of the weekend as reigning champions Kutchi Tigers take on last year’s runners-up Wanderers in a high-stakes showdown at the picturesque Lakeside Oval in Entebbe.
Their rivalry is storied: Kutchi Tigers crushed Wanderers by 154 runs in their last 50-over league meeting, only for Wanderers to edge the reverse fixture by 7 runs. Most recently, Wanderers beat Kutchi by 2 runs in the UGT20—a reminder of how closely matched these sides are.
Kutchi Tigers, who last played on April 13, are unbeaten and rested after a 10-run thriller over Avengers. Wanderers, meanwhile, are still chasing their first win of the campaign after falling to JACC last weekend. With plenty of pride and points on the line, expect nothing short of a tactical arm-wrestle.
Ceylon Lions vs Rounders – Serenity Oval, Kamengo, 10am
Both teams come into this Group B encounter on the back of strong victories: Ceylon Lions routed Aboojo, while Rounders beat Avengers with all departments firing.
Star batsmen Robinson Obuya (Ceylon) and Steven Wabwose (Rounders) are in fine touch, and this fixture could well hinge on who dictates terms early. Their last competitive meeting in the UGT20 saw Ceylon Lions cruise to a 10-wicket win - though Rounders claimed a one-wicket win in a friendly prior. With bragging rights and momentum at stake, this contest could go down to the wire.
JACC vs Aboojo – Jinja SS Oval, 10am
A first-ever Division One duel between two ambitious sides. JACC – captained by Cricket Cranes all-rounder Kenneth Waiswa - will look to ride the wave of confidence after defeating Wanderers last weekend, while Aboojo, with a new skipper Innocent Mwebaze, will be seeking redemption after falling to Ceylon Lions.
This match presents a great opportunity for both to strengthen their mid-table standings - and for emerging stars to make a statement.
This weekend, expect nothing less than thrillers!
