Despite the prolonged first innings lasting 15.4 overs, Uganda wretchedly lost to Scotland by a whopping 9 wickets.
Sent in to bat, Uganda got off to the worst of starts with openers Rachael Ntono and Saidat Kemigisha dismissed for ducks in the first two overs. With the floodgates opened, another 3 wickets quickly fell leaving Uganda at 15 for 5.
It was open season as Scotland easily breezed through the Ugandan defenses to see them hurried all out for just 43 runs.
All-rounder Getrude Candiru 10(27) and skipper Kevin Awino 13(21) had to put up with a lot of dot balls to give the semblance of a fight in a contest that was already lost. Despite their valiant efforts, their time on the crease was equally shortened. Kevin’s wicket fell bringing on Consy Aweko at number 11 who’s time at the crease lasted all of a few seconds.
With 44 runs to win, Scotland made light work of the target in 6 overs and some change. Teenager Sarah Byrce opened the batting and quickly raced to 36 in just 23 balls, an innings littered with 6 boundaries. She then partnered with her older sister Kathryn Byrce 6(9) who’s lofted shot over mid-on for a boundary off Nakisuyi’s bowling sealed the game for them.
The difference in class between the two sides was overwhelming as the Scots literally didn’t break a sweat breaking down the Ugandan defenses. If this were a boxing match, a second round knockout would best describe the events of the day.
